This toy is not difficult for a dog to figure out how to use it. It does have a big opening and a smaller opening - you twist the clear plastic top to set the size you prefer. It also allows you to close off one end or the other so fewer treats spill out. It has lasted for weeks so far - and to me that says "well designed and sturdy".
